We can begin to solve the challenges of tomorrow by helping students develop literacy and competency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Through science and engineering internships, APL hosts more than 500 students each year, including those from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) and tribal colleges and universities. APL’s College Recruiting Team reaches out to more than 750 universities annually, including more than 100 HBCUs and HSIs, and our Diversity Recruiting Strategy Team focuses on ways APL can amplify its diversity hiring practices. APL’s Discovery rotational program offers a unique opportunity for new graduates to experience APL’s wide array of technical challenges and develop their skills and expertise. Additionally, the Laboratory participates in several hiring efforts within the military community and leverages professional societies and conferences to recruit and attract diverse candidates. Through outreach and collaboration with community and professional organizations, and with APL’s internal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) teams, the Laboratory participates in a variety of conferences, career fairs and engagements that amplify Laboratory opportunities in communities across the country.
