Develop Talent

DEI Initiative

APL encourages a culture of lifelong learning and discovery. Through programs such as our internal Strategic Education program, the Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals program and the Doctor of Engineering Program, staff members can broaden their technical skills and expertise or earn advanced degrees. The Lab also encourages staff members to join professional organizations, attend conferences and training programs, and publish papers. Creativity, diversity of thought and the inclusion of new ideas are also central to APL’s focus on prioritizing career development for all staff members. Our leadership training specifically addresses fostering an environment where equal opportunity, diversity, inclusivity and respectful peer interactions are central to our success. All staff members can take advantage of training on diverse inclusion, nonconscious bias, proactive bystander, and transgender and nonbinary awareness. In addition to training, the Lab offers several mentorship opportunities, such as the Strategic Mentoring Cohort, which is designed to create diverse cohorts of high-potential staff members who are mentored by senior leaders and provided opportunities for training, visibility and leadership roles. The Laboratory celebrates staff members’ diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) contributions and achievements through internal and external awards programs and recognition efforts.
