About STEM Academy
APL’s STEM Academy is a unique learning opportunity for middle and high school students (grades 8–12) to increase both their knowledge of and interest in STEM-related college majors and careers. STEM Academy students will be able to:
- learn from APL experts
- learn about the real-world applications of STEM
- experience hands-on learning
- explore career development opportunities
Cost: STEM Academy courses require a $49-per-course commitment fee. Collected fees will be used for scholarships issued by the APL STEM Program Management Office. Financial assistance is available.
STEM Academy is offered three times per year during our two twelve-week fall and spring sessions and one six-week summer session. Students are expected to participate in at least ten of the twelve classes for each session. Students who do not meet this requirement are not eligible for a certificate of completion and may be removed from the session without a refund.
During the fall session, courses are offered from the third week of September until the end of the second week of December. Courses are offered one day per week, and the Fall STEM Expo will be held the Monday after the last class.
During the spring session, courses are offered from the last week of February until the end of the week before Memorial Day. Courses are offered one day per week. Because we may experience inclement weather during the spring session, a class may be canceled without being rescheduled. If a class is canceled, we will attempt to reschedule it or offer it online. The Spring STEM Expo will be held the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
During the summer session, courses are offered from the week after July 4 until the end of the third week of August. Summer courses are offered two days per week, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.
