The ASPIRE 2021-2022 Academic Year Application is now closed. Our summer 2022 application will open January 1, 2022. Thank you for your interest in the ASPIRE internship program.
The ASPIRE internship application is very thorough. Because the application must be completed in a single session (meaning you cannot save a partially completed application and return to finish it later), we want you to be prepared.
Before You Apply
First, take a look at a preview of the application to avoid any surprises! Please note that there may be small changes or inconsistencies between the sample application and the actual application.
Second, download the ASPIRE High School Internship Program School Acknowledgment Form and have it signed by your counselor, internship coordinator, or principal. This form is a required part of your application. As of April 2021, the ASPIRE program is no longer requiring transcripts or report cards. Instead, graduation year and cumulative, unweighted GPA must be verified by your counselor, internship coordinator, or principal via this form.
Finally, prepare a brief résumé that details your academic pursuits, extracurricular activities, and especially any STEM experiences you have had. Don’t have a résumé? No worries. A résumé should include your name and contact information, past or current job experience, education, skills, extracurricular and leadership experience, and (if you feel like it) hobbies. If you aren’t sure how to write a résumé, we suggest checking out this link. You can find free résumé templates with a simple search.
Now you are ready to apply!
Complete and submit the online application. Make sure to upload the signed school acknowledgment form, your résumé, and your unofficial transcripts. When completing your application, you will be asked to write 250 words or less on two topics: (1) explain why you chose your area(s) of interest and/or why you chose APL, and (2) tell us about a project you are proud of. Areas of interest are: Aerospace Engineering & Planetary Science, Applied Physics, Biology & Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology & Cybersecurity, and Mathematics & Data Analysis.
After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with your personalized recommendation link. This can be sent as a reminder to your recommender(s). Once they complete and submit the recommendation form, the form will automatically attach to your application. Your application will be complete when we have received one recommendation form.
Please do not call to see whether we have received your recommendation form. We will contact you if it is missing.
If you are accepted, please download our ASPIRE Student Contract Form and upload it to the correct form. You will be e-mailed a link.
Applications will be reviewed, interviews will be conducted, and students will be accepted according to the session timeline for which they applied. Because of the number of applications received, please do not call to check on the status of your application unless you have a specific issue. Acceptances are sent out on a rolling basis. All students, regardless of acceptance, will be notified of their status after the selection period has ended.
