In my research I have founded and led a worldwide collaboration to become a recognized National Science Foundation facility, authored more than 70 peer-reviewed papers, and won >20 competitive proposals.  My primary field of interest is heliophysics, including understanding the dynamic and complex interactions between Earth and near-Earth space. I also have a long history of teaching at the undergraduate to graduate level, as well as providing research opportunities for high school teachers and students.  I am a fellow at The Johns Hopkins University, and previously to coming to APL, I was a tenured Professor at University of Bergen, Norway (where I still am the adviser for a graduate student).  I've taught an astronomy class at the American University, and been a Master's thesis advisor at The Johns Hopkins University, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and University of Bergen, Norway.
