Robert Bruntz is a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).  Dr. Bruntz’s dissertation research involved simulations of the interaction between Earth’s magnetic field and the solar wind, with emphasis on the viscous interaction between the two.  His current research focuses on the simulation of atmospheric gravity waves, using the Transfer Function Model (TFM) and coupling neutral atmosphere waves to the ionosphere, to study the resultant traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs).  He also works with related observations of Earth’s atmosphere and ionosphere, such as high frequency radar observations of the ionosphere, including the SuperDARN network, and satellite observations, such as the ultraviolet (UV) and visible light data from the SSUSI instrument, flying on certain DMSP satellites.  He has recently also worked on the OVATION Prime 2013 empirical model, which uses solar wind data to predict the location and amplitude of 4 types of aurora.
